Nipple Discharge
Last updated 22nd April 2022
Nipple discharge is common and rarely associated with breast cancer.
“Physiological” discharge is most common.
Benign duct papillomas and duct ectasia are commonest causes of “pathological” nipple discharge.
Breast cancer and DCIS do occasionally cause single duct, blood-stained discharge.
Nipple discharge may be checked for blood with urine dipstick (++ or +++ are significant)
