Management of Epistaxis
Last updated 12th October 2023
Initial Management
- Ask the patient to apply pressure by pinching the lower part of nose for 10 mins. Repeat if still bleeding. Breathe through the mouth, sit forward and spit blood into a bowl.
- Place an ice pack on the dorsum of the nose and back of the neck. It is reasonable to try this in all patients, as this can avoid the insertion of unpleasant packs.
- If this does not work -> refer to ENT
If Bleeding Severe and No Time Waiting for ENT
