Western General Hospital (WGH) Lothian now have a dedicated Covid ward (ward 70) with an on-call Oncologist 0900-1900 everyday and an oncology reg available 24hrs everyday who are based in this ward who would be available to discuss covid related patient issues/discussions. They can be contacted via WGH switchboard 0131 5371000 and asking for the red on call oncologist or oncology reg.
Oncology in DGRI
- Any Oncology chemotherapy patients admitted to DGRI should be automatically highlighted to Acute Oncology and their Dumfries CNS who will hopefully come and review the patient and will discuss any concerns with their Oncologist.
- This system is not foolproof and will not happen over the weekend so if no one has been to see the patient it would be useful to give Acute Oncology or the CNS a call.
- Out of hours, any concerns about Oncology patients can be discussed with the Lothian SpR on call on 0131 537 1000. If you are not happy with the advice please call the Consultant.
- Immunotherapy patients should carry a copy of the GP Immunotherapy Information Letter which discusses some basic management steps.
- Edinburgh say they would be happy to transfer any immunotherapy patients you are concerned about to them.
- The Edinburgh oncology guideline page can now be found via the link below as well as at the bottom of the Handbook main page and on the Beacon Clinical Links page (called “Oncology Guidelines” rather than OOQS). It contains the following topics: –
- Contact Us
- Clinical Management Guidelines by Tumour Site
- MDM and Cancer Referral Pathways
- Malignant Spinal Cord Compression
- Neutropenic Sepsis
- Immunotherapy
- Chemotherapy diarrhoea management
- Chemotherapy Toxicity Guidelines
- Management of Cancer Complications
- Vaccination
- PEG Care Guidelines
- Lothian Oncology Secretaries Phone Numbers
- Cancer Treatment Helpline
- Advice on Use of Paracetamol with chemotherapy
- Brain Metastases
